Salt Creek Ranch, owned by Rickey Smith Ranches Ltd., is located eight miles east of Memphis, Texas on highway 256. The family owned and operated ranch has been involved in various segments of the cattle industry for over twenty five years. In recent years a herd of registered Angus has been developed, based primarily on cows purchased from Hoff Scotch Cap Angus Ranch in South Dakota. All herd sires were purchased from, and are co-owned with Doug and Molly Hoff.

Salt Creek Ranch submittled the first DNA samples to Bovigen for analysis May of 2007, and the results have been impressive, with Salt Creek Bob 7003 leading the scores. In March of 2008, a full sister to 7003 was born who also scored seven Quality stars. As of June 2008, Salt Creek Ranch remains the only breeder of seven Quality star Angus in the USA. We also have a new bull calf who has scored nineteen stars, the top score in the Angus breed.

Hoff Insignia, shown here in pasture after sixty days of heavy service, is a 10 Star bull, 6 Quality with a 27+ QG score. His calves are very uniform and their GeneStar scores prove his value the the Salt Creek program.

Salt Creek Bob 7003 is an 11 Star bull, 7 Quality with a 32+ QG score. This makes him one of only 3 Angus out of over 24,000 tested through GeneStar to score 32+ on Quality. SC Insignia is out of an outstanding cow purchased in the 2002 Hoff Scotch Cap Dispersion. He is a maternal brother to the seven star Hoff Perfectionist 939 3102, currently serving as a Salt Creek herd sire.
